Novelle is designed for writers who care about ownership, privacy, and control. This page explains our product posture in plain language; it is intentionally careful rather than absolute.
AI is optional
When you use AI features, Novelle may send relevant project context to our AI infrastructure and model providers so they can respond. You can disable or limit which notes are included in AI context; other project context depends on the feature you invoke.
Context is limited
We aim to send only the context needed for the feature to work. Where supported, AI requests are configured to restrict provider use of prompts for model training and apply stronger data-retention controls.
What this means in practice
Chat and Critique can use project context to help with craft, continuity, and notes. Note context is project-controlled and can be turned off or limited. Import analysis and style learning run only when you ask for them.
Using AI features may involve processing your content by third-party AI infrastructure. If you do not want project content sent to AI providers, avoid invoking AI actions for that project.
We avoid absolute promises like “no third party ever processes your work.” Instead, Novelle gives you visible controls and uses privacy-oriented AI routing options where available.
